Albany’s “heart and soul” was celebrated on Thursday with the community coming together for its annual Thank a Volunteer Day lunch.

Organised by Albany and Regional Volunteer Service at the Princess Royal Sailing Club, 100 guests enjoyed a high-tea grazing table and entertainment from local volunteer performers Misty Gem Band made up of three sisters.

Long-serving volunteers Helen Ralph, Lynley Harrison and Wendy Bunbury were presented flowers by ARVS manager Sarah Udecz in gratitude for their years of running food relief programs like Breakfast in the Park and Tummy Warmers.

Mayor Greg Stocks delivered a passionate speech about the vital role volunteers play in strengthening the community while MP Rebecca Stephens shared stories of her own volunteering experiences.

ARVS manager Sarah Udecz said volunteers make the impossible possible and provide crucial community services.

“Volunteering is the backbone of our community, supporting countless local initiatives and services that simply wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of those who give their time and energy,” she said.

“Thank a Volunteer Day serves as a powerful reminder of the pivotal role volunteers play in shaping and sustaining our community.

“Albany’s volunteers are indeed the heart and soul of the region, and this celebration was a fitting tribute to their efforts.

“This global day of gratitude reminds us all of the power of coming together to support and uplift one another.”

On behalf of the ARVS, Ms Udecz thanked sponsors Albany’s Historic Whaling Station, the Department of Communities, the Australian Red Cross and The Princess Royal Sailing Club who donated their venue.
