The Geraldton Turf Club will play host to the Mingenew Cup this Sunday, keeping the cup tradition alive after the event was abandoned last month due to the track being in poor condition.

Race seven will see the running of the Mingenew Cup with a stacked card for the 1900m gallop.

Julia Martin’s Bombay Style comes off an impressive run in the Geraldton Gold Cup last Sunday, finishing fourth in the marquee event of the day.

Bombay Style is well-matched with jockey Chanel Cooper, who has ridden the nine-year-old gelding impressively over the past few meets.

The Martin stables will be looking to pounce on a great opportunity to take a second bite at the cherry as Bombay Style lines up against Allen Hughes’ Butterflyrock in a blockbuster showdown.

After failing to impress in the Geraldton Gold Cup last Sunday, finishing in eighth, Hughes has gone for a new pairing with jockey Zephen Johnston-Porter taking the reins for the local star.

Dan and Ben Pearce return to Geraldton after a less-than-impressive outing at the cup hoping to rein a few wins in on Sunday.

Race one has the Pearce brothers pairing up with this season’s leading jockey, Tash Faithfull, who will ride Written Sin out of barrier eight in the first maiden of the day.

Gordon Spowart’s Deep Discretion is on the verge of breaking the maiden and with Troy Turner on board has been given arguably her best chance to do so.

Another Spowart stable product, Extra Zero, will run in the second maiden of the day in race two, once again with Turner on board.

Faithfull finds herself on Greg Wright’s Wasn’t Me out of barrier seven as she takes on Casey Hunter, who will be on board of Meg Forrester’s King Of The Woods.

Miff Muffered Moof makes her return to the track after being scratched late at the cup last week. The Martin stable product will have Abrolhos Plate-winning jockey Austin Galati on board.

One to look out for is Tony Clancy’s Jive King, who will be ridden by Cooper in the 1600m out of barrier two.

Alby Bowtell’s Collective headlines race four at Geraldton after coming off an Abrolhos Plate win last weekend, finding herself paired once again with Galati.

The Pearce brothers and Faithfull combine once more in race five with Queen Of Hawks out of barrier one in the sprint. Peter Daly will feature in race five with General Knowledge, with Turner set to be on board.

Zing To Win out of barrier four will be one to keep an eye on come race six on Sunday, with the Pearce brothers once again hoping for a win through Faithfull as she looks to extend her lead on the provincial jockey leaderboard in season 2024-25.

In their way is a group of locals looking to replicate their previous outing at the cup, with local dominance. Martin has Safe Hustle and Spirit Man along with Willie Parker and Gold Keeper.

Finishing off the day in race eight is Forrester’s Ebony’s Ace with Hunter on board. A stacked race card rounds out the final race of the day with the Pearce brothers once again looking to earn back a win after last week through Wineaclocksumwhere.

Gates open noon at the Geraldton Turf Club on Sunday, with free entry.
