Council backs foreshore water sports plan

Matthew WoodleyGeraldton Guardian

A proposed new watersports business on the Geraldton foreshore received conditional approval from the City last night.

All 12 councillors present voted unanimously to inform ratepayers of their intention to grant a licence for commercial water sport activities and invite public submissions on the matter.

The business would provide boat hire, tube rides and wakeboarding in Champion Bay.

Final approval of the licence will require consent from the Minister for Lands and also compliance with relevant marine legislation.

Should it go ahead, the water sports business will likely be placed on the stretch of beach in front of the Geraldton Multipurpose Centre.
