A hapless Bluff Point man in trouble with law didn't help his case when he allegedly tried to take a gun to Geraldton Police Station after being arrested at the weekend.

The 36-year-old man was arrested on another matter in Waggrakine on Saturday night and asked if he could bring a bag with him.

Police agreed but when they checked its contents they allegedly found a .22 calibre gun with identifying markings removed.

The gun was seized and the man was charged with possessing an unlicensed firearm.
