Governor-General Sam Mostyn accepts invitation to come to Geraldton, schedules two-day visit this week

The Governor-General is in Geraldton this week to visit some of the city’s prime venues and locations after accepting a council invitation sent out mid last year. In response to the council’s unanimous decision in July last year to extend an invitation, Sam Mostyn has made her way to Geraldton to visit and tour the city on Monday and Tuesday. The Governor-General will be touring the HMAS Sydney II Memorial, Museum of Geraldton, Geraldton Port, Bundiyarra Aboriginal Community Aboriginal Corporation, port and crayfish factory facilities and a local high school. Ms Mostyn will also be the special guest at a civic reception and an event hosted by the Midwest Multicultural Association. Last year, the council said a visit from the Governor-General would be an opportunity for her to meet community members, to learn more about the region and its issues and build social cohesion. Ms Mostyn was sworn in as Australia’s 28th Governor-General in July 2024 and is just the second woman to hold the role. She took over from David Hurley, who was governor-general for five years.
