Native flora and fauna on menu at Geraldton’s newest eatery, RT Cafe and Restaurant

Geraldton’s newest restaurant will be opening its doors next week, with a strong Australian bush flavour on its menu.

At a soft launch event this week, dozens of diners were invited into RT Cafe and Restaurant’s revamped two-storey space on Marine Terrace, opposite the Freemasons, and treated to some delicious tasting plates, which included crocodile, kangaroo and damper wrapped in bark.

There will also be mainstream meals on offer, including local seafood, steak and vegetarian dishes, but native flora and fauna is a strong focus on the menu delivered by executive chef Ray Tate, who used to own the Boatshed restaurant, and his team.

The restaurant is a venture between business partners Wendy and Allianne who strongly believe native flora and fauna adds awesome flavour and wanted to offer Geraldton patrons an experience they may never have tried before.

There are also plans to put on shows, art exhibitions and high teas in the space as well as to become a hub for barista training. The second storey has been set up like an art gallery, with the restaurant’s name paying homage to its “arty” vibe.

The restaurant will start dinner service next week, before offering breakfast and lunch in subsequent weeks.
