Geraldton is set to make its mark on the Over 35 Men’s and Women’s National Softball Championships, with five players selected for WA.

Stacey Derschow and Kristi March will join the women’s team, while Dion Harrison, Kurt Mead, and Paul Valenti will suit up for the men’s squad in Blacktown NSW from July 9-14.

For Harrison, this competition is another opportunity to showcase his passion and dedication to the sport.

“I am absolutely honoured to do this again,” he said.

“I’ve been in the WA system for seven years and I’d do it all over again if I could.

“To go away to Sydney with my older sister is amazing - we love the game and wouldn’t change it.”

The side have seen success in recent years, and Harrison is keen to continue their winning form.

“We won gold last year and I’m absolutely keen to do it again. We have a better squad this year,” he said.

“I’ve said it so many times, Geraldton has some awesome talent, and it shows no matter your age — if you’ve got it, you’ve got it.”

After trying for years, March said being selected was a massive honour.

“It has been a dream of mine to play at State level again since I was 16,” she said.

“It may have taken quite a few years, but to be selected and play at one of the best levels is an absolute honour.”

March will represent WA alongside her younger brother Harrison, with their connection running deep in the sport.

“I am excited to put on the black and gold and play the sport that has been in my blood since I was a little girl,” she said.

“It doesn’t get any better than being able to represent WA alongside my younger brother.”
