A scooter rider has tragically died in hospital after an accident in Geraldton on Saturday night.

Bradley Taylor, 34, of Rangeway, was airlifted to Perth for emergency surgery but was pronounced dead on Monday.

Police said it appeared Mr Taylor’s scooter hit the side of a van about 11pm on North West Coastal Highway in Rangeway, causing the scooter to crash.

Acting Sergeant Keith Burrows of Mid West Gascoyne Traffic said it was believed another person, travelling on a separate scooter, accompanied Mr Taylor in the lead up to the crash.

Police would like to speak to anybody who may have witnessed the crash or who may have seen the pair beforehand.

Sgt Burrows said the pair were believed to have been travelling around Fitzgerald and Gregory streets, Cathedral Avenue or John Willcock Link not long before the crash.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 or Mid West Gascoyne Traffic on 9923 4555.

Mr Taylor's family have been notified.
