Driver risks lives near fatal crash scene
Video has emerged of a motorist driving into oncoming traffic in almost the same spot that claimed a woman's life near Geraldton at the weekend.
The video, captured by a Geraldton tow truck driver last month, shows a dual cab utility almost colliding with an oncoming car on North West Coastal Highway, after overtaking the two truck and a caravan on double white lines.
Bonehams Towing Service owner Phil Conder, who has fitted dashboard cameras to all his vehicles, said it was the worst incident he had seen in a long time.
It was uploaded on the company's Facebook page on November 6.
“I’ve seen families overtaking on blind corners and on double white lines. It’s an ongoing problem,” he said.
“But this was on almost the same spot where there was a fatal accident. It was almost the same corner.
“Drivers just have to get in front of a truck, regardless of the risk. They will not wait.
“That’s why the trucking industry is fighting back, carrying cameras to stop these idiots.”
Since the video was posted online four days ago it has received 91,000 views.
Officer-in-charge of Mid West Gascoyne Traffic, Sergeant Peter Gerada, said police had received a copy of the video and were investigating the incident.
