Expensive long weekend drive
A young Perth woman had an expensive trip through the Mid West on the Labour Day long weekend after she was allegedly clocked at 30 kilometres over the speed limit.
The 23-year-old from Middle Swan was fined $800 and given 12 demerit points after her Hyundai i20 was allegedly detected travelling at 140 km/h in a 110 zone at Arrowsmith, about 5pm yesterday.
Double demerit points apply this weekend.
Dongara police said the driver could accept a minimum three month licence suspension or apply for a “double or nothing” exemption.
Under the exemption, a driver can stay on the road if they do not incur any more demerits or do not commit a disqualification offence in a 12 month period.
Otherwise the suspension period doubles.
