Hard work pays off with State selection

Local under-17s, B-grade and Subiaco-Floreat — now Phoebe Vlahov is set to hit sixes for WA.

A busy schedule has not stopped Vlahov making the WA State Under-18s National Cricket Championship side to play in Ballarat next month.

It will be her second tournament with the team after helping the State to a three-win, four-loss record earlier this year.

Vlahov, a Mid West Academy of Sport scholarship holder this and next year, will study Year 12 at Nagle in 2015 while also holding a position as house captain.

There is not much she can’t handle.

Vlahov hopes she can help better WA’s fifth-placed finish which it achieved in this year’s competition.

“I want to take a few wickets, ” she said. “I will be more of a bowler, but have not really thought about what I want to achieve as goals just yet. After the competition last year I knew what I had to work on and I have changed a few things with my bowling technique.”

Vlahov plays under-17s and B-grade cricket with Towns locally and has made appearances with Subiaco-Floreat’s B-grade side in the WACA women’s competition this season.

“The guys I play B-grade with are great — really supportive and help me out a lot, ” she said.

“The schedule does get a little hectic, but I enjoy it.”

Vlahov’s week consists of two gym, two training sessions and two games, not to mention the demands of study.

She also juggled trips to Perth and competed in city versus country games which resulted in her WA selection.
