A man has been remanded in custody over the death of his mother in Geraldton last year.

Damian Michael Reilly appeared via video-link from Hakea Prison before Geraldton Magistrate's Court this morning for mention only.

The 42-year-old has been charged with unlawful assault causing the death of 69-year-old Gloria Anne Reilly, whose body was found by police in Simpson Street, Beresford, on November 13.

Mr Reilly has not yet entered a plea.

Magistrate Donna Webb told Mr Reilly the results of an interim post-mortem had been received but more reports were expected to follow.

Counsel for Mr Reilly, Ryan Arndt, said he had received no instructions to apply for bail.

Ms Webb remanded Mr Reilly in custody until April 6 for a committal mention.
