A Dongara mother allegedly drove with no seatbelt while her eight-month-old baby was unrestrained in a bassinet on the front seat yesterday.

Police stopped the 32-year-old on Flanagan Way in Dongara about 9am.

The mother had a baby seat in her Mercedes sedan but allegedly told police the eight-month-old child "wouldn’t settle”.

According to police, she had just dropped two children at school.

Senior Constable Luke Scott said there was “no excuse for endangering the life of a baby”.

She was fined a total of $600 for not wearing a seatbelt and having an unrestrained passenger under 16 years of age.
