Nanna’s memory inspires gift

I was at a garden centre recently and had bought a container of petunia seedlings and was considering buying another one.

A young woman approached me holding two punnets of the same flower and said: “These were my nanna’s favourite flower and I can see you like too. As I cannot give them to her I would like you to have them.”

I was surprised but recovered and said it was a lovely thought. I asked if her nanna was still with her but she said she was not here, but had brought her up. I thanked her and kissed her cheek and we parted.

I returned to my car and wept for her and her nanna and went home and planted the petunias.
