New women’s club welcomes members
A new friendship group has been established in the Mid West, with the Inner Wheel Club of Geraldton officially chartered at a special event.
Joining an established 14 clubs in the WA Inner Wheel District, the club was opened in front of 100 members and friends from across the nation on Saturday, August 20, including Inner Wheel Australia president Marilyn Armstrong, who travelled over from South Australia.
Inner Wheel Club of Geraldton president Helen Harrison said she was proud to be part of a club with such a long history of service.
“Inner Wheel was initially formed for the wives of Rotarians to enjoy a time of friendship,” she said.
“The links with Rotary are still there as both clubs support the same ideals of friendship, community service and foster international understanding.”
Mrs Harrison said she was also excited the club was now open to all women in the community.
“The establishment of a new club is thrilling,” she said.
“It is the largest international women’s organisation in the world and gives ladies of all ages an opportunity to have links in the community that they would not necessarily have made through their work or sport.
“It is a great network of friends just waiting to be made.”
The Rotary Club of Batavia Coast sponsored the establishment of the new Geraldton club.
Rotary Club of Batavia Coast president Chris Edwards presented Mrs Harrison with the club’s official collar and jewel during the opening.
The Inner Wheel Club of Geraldton meets at 6pm on the second Wednesday of the month at the Camel Bar.
