Big turnout for second open water swim
In the Open Water Swimming Series event in Geraldton on Sunday, 109 swimmers registered.
This was a slight increase on the 103 swimmers who took part in the inaugural event in 2014.
Swimming WA chief executive Darren Beazley was present, as was Geraldton mayor Shane Van Styn, who started the 5km swim, and Member for Geraldton Ian Blayney who started the 500m.
Presenting partner Aussie Natural Spring Water provided free water for all swimmers and their local representative Scott Bacon started the 1.25km swim.
Former ABC journalist Grant Woodhams was announcer.
He also interviewed swimmers and kept everyone up to date on the results.
The water temperature was 21 degrees and about 15 per cent of the swimmers travelled to Geraldton for the event.
Some came from as far as Mandurah.
