Two Geraldton athletes have won medals at the recent Gascoyne Games after representatives from the PCYC were invited to link up with the Carnarvon Judo Club and participate in the competition.

The team, comprised of Rohan Skoglie and brothers Achaius and Tarsuinn Hall, travelled nearly 500km to compete in the tournament against the Port Hedland Judo Club on October 10.

It was a successful trip for the team, highlighted by third kyu green belt Rohan Skoglie’s gold medal in the under-21 division, and bronze in the open competition — which was won by former Australian representative and 2015 national open men’s bronze medallist Daniel Zammit.

Achaius, also a third kyu green belt, was awarded the silver medal for the under-13 grade, while younger brother Tarsuinn competed in the under-10s.

Peter Hall travelled with the team and he said they all did extremely well in what was a tough tournament — especially those in their first competition.

The trip closely followed another journey to Carnarvon by the PCYC judo team, who participated in a grading session over the September long weekend.

Trinity Muller, Destiny Byrnes, Toby Muller, the Hall brothers and Skoglie all passed to progress to the next belt.

The grading session was conducted by fifth dan black belt Don McLeod, who has been teaching judo in Carnarvon for more than 40 years.
